Today was all about volcanos.
They are a little too happy.
Momma decided to chase some of the more recent lava that's flowed on the island. First we wanted to check out a black sand beach in Kalapana.

The air is very fresh here. It's the first time it's touched land since crossing the Pacific.
This beach was a bit more stone than sand, but a hit for stone throwing.

We drove up to Isaac Hale Beach Park and passed through areas hit by the 2018 lava. We reached the end of the road.

Next we drove to Volcano National Park and the weather changed. So did our outfits.

Lots of steam at the edges of the caldera. It's difficult to really appreciate the scope because of the weather. The Kilauea caldera changed dramatically in 2018 with a huge crater forming in the caldera and taking roads and trails with it. No one is allowed to hike down to the caldera floor anymore.

Next stop, we walked down a now portion of the Crater Rim Road to see a different view of the caldera.
