Maya at 7 Years
Weight: 47 lbs (35th percentile).
Height: 47 inches (35th percentile).
Maya is at a delightful age. She is very awake and wants to learn about everything. She sees the beauty and the interesting details that we miss sometimes. She’s getting more clever, but she’s still very silly and earnest.
She’s learned so much in the past year. She is now able to read simple chapter books and has started noticing how much fun it is to be able to read things in the outside world. She’s doing great with her reading and writing too. She loves writing stories and will stay up some nights in her room working on various picture books. Her illustration work keeps improving and we are always impressed by how well she can convey action and emotion in her simple drawings. She has also become very interested in science and loves coming up with interesting experiments.
Maya loves her little brother. They play together very well and Maya likes teaching him things and showing him how to behave. Now that Dex is better able to do just about everything, Maya is finding more and more fun ways for them to connect.
Maya’s sporty side keeps getting stronger. She loves baseball and has a great time playing with Daddy in the backyard. She’s been taking classes in swimming and tennis. She loves riding her bike and playing, playing, playing.
She’s very funny and loves coming up with jokes and making up silly characters. She was known in her 1st grade class because she would make up songs while she was doing her projects. She’s doesn’t seem to let much get to her. However, it’s always surprising what does cause her to melt down. Maybe it was the snack that wasn’t exactly right or weekend plan that had to be switched. She is still very good at turning into Jello when the world betrays her.
We are also seeing a glimpse into the future as Maya is now spending much more time with her girl friends and less with the boys. Maya commented one day, “You know, boys just can’t listen as well as girls, it’s so frustrating.” She did, however, find her first boyfriend, Cameron. He was a boy in her class and they liked to play spy together.
It’s a real treat getting to know our little girl. She is a lot of fun!
